Quick Start Guide
FileReplicationPro Quick Start Guide
Overview
The Version Upgrade Instruction Guide is here
FRP servers come in two flavors, Replication Servers that perform the data replication work and (only) One central Management Server that provides a focal user interface and communicates with all Replication Servers to exchange job, status and log information for all your servers which may be located anywhere in the world.
Red lines = port 9100 Black lines = port 9200
Data replication is performed as “Jobs” that run on the replication servers and define what, when and how to exchange data between them. You enter the list of servers that participate in your replication network and the jobs you want to run at the Management Server Web Console (any web browser connected to the Management Server will do). You can monitor system activity, status and logs for all servers worldwide from the web console.
The following sections describe the installation procedure and provide a quick setup guide for configuring a replication network. Hyperlinks will link you to OS specific detail. For more information visit the FileReplicationPro Knowledgebase and Wikis.
Installation
For a minimal setup, install one (and only one) FRP Management Server and at least one Replication Server (you can install both on the same computer).
Here is a quick explaination of the role and function of the Management server.
For starters, we recommend installing FRP on one or two servers on the same subnet.
- Download and install FileReplicationPro on each server that will participate in the replication. Only one server can be designated as the Management Server. During installation, pick one server for your management server that has access to all other replication servers.
- If you intend to use the Open File Manager on a Windows server, download, install and activate it. No additional configuration is required, just make sure to re-start FRP. [Detail]
- Open TCP ports 9100 and 9200 on the internal firewall for each server. If you are installing all servers on the same LAN (subnet), this is sufficient except in the case of Windows 7, for Windows 7 UDP ports are closed by default. You will need to create rules to open UDP port 9110 if you want autodiscovery to work with Windows 7 machines. See more details below for more complex network setups involving external firewalls. For windows users here are batch Utilities to open ports for Windows (includes ports 9100,9200, and 9110) change extension after download to .bat
OpenPortsXP-2003.bat.unsafe
OpenPortsVista-2008-Win7.bat.unsafe
- (Re)Start the FileReplicationPro replication on each server [Detail].
- (Re)Start the FileReplicationPro Management and Helper Server applications on your designated management server only. [Detail]
- Connect to the FileReplicationPro Management Server
Using a web browser; go to http://<hostname>:9100/ Note: replace <hostname> with the hostname or Static IP address of the Management Server.
- Login to the Management Console
Note: the default password is “admin”
- Add Servers
- Click on “Servers” in the left column.
- For LOCAL LAN: All servers with FileReplicationPro Replication application running should automatically be listed (within a couple of minutes).
- For REMOTE SERVERS – click the “Add” button to add a server and enter the hostname and StaticIP Address of the server [network configuration].
- Add a Job
- Click on “Jobs” in the left column.
- Click the “Add” button and fill in the job form. Use the context sensitive help (? Icon) for more detail.
- Select “Make this Job Active”
- Select Job Type: Real Time, Repeating Job, Run Immediately, Run Once
- Set Replication Type : Move / Copy / 1-Way Mirror / 2-Way Mirror [ Details ]
- Choose Source and Destination Servers using the pencil icon to display a list.
- Set Job password if desired, not required.
- Choose Source and Destination Path user the pencil icon to browse or type in the path.
- If you desire to replicate mutiple source and destination paths click "Add Row"
- Continue down to Schedule Job section.
- Set Start time according to time zone of source server. [ Details ]
- Enter an exception period if desired. Jobs will not be started during this time period, a running job that enters the exception perion will contiue until it is completed. So you may need to take this into acccount in setting your times.
- Select days of the week the job is to run. Jobs running on a scheduled day may continue into a non scheduled day if they take more time to complete and run past midnight. Such jobs will continue until completed.
- Enter the desired Repeat Every Value if enabled, does not apply to Real Time jobs.
- Click Finish
